Leah Page and her Gaffney High girls varsity basketball teammates have been on the sidelines due to the virtual learning late last week that closes the school to any activities. The Lady Indians are scheduled to host Nation Ford on Tuesday but that game is up in the air due to the weather.

The Blacksburg Lady Wildcats had a nice road win at Chesnee this past Tuesday to open their region schedule.

They were hoping to build on that win against Oakbrook Prep and Landrum. However, the Oakbrook Prep game was cancelled and the region game with Landrum has been rescheduled after the school district went to virtual learning, which prevents any sports related events, including practice from taking place at the school.

The Lady Wildcats, 8-5, were scheduled to play three region games this week, beginning Tuesday at home with Greer Middle School, Greenville Tech on Wednesday and at Brashier on Friday.

Those games, though, are in jeopardy because of the weather.

Blacksburg coach Bobby Rodgers said the disruption to his team’s routine hampers the Lady Wildcats’ development.

“(Not having practices) impacts a lot,” Rodgers said. “You try to develop chemistry and it’s hard if you don’t play or practice.”

The Gaffney High boys and girls teams were scheduled to host Nation Ford on Tuesday.

However, that game is up in the air due to the uncertainty of the weather.

The Lady Indians haven’t played since a 1-point loss at Clover this past Tuesday and haven’t practiced since Wednesday.

“It puts you behind,” Gaffney girls varsity coach Mark Huff said.

The South Carolina High School League released on Friday the playoffs will begin on Feb. 16.
